2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro

I am jazzed today! I have the 2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro with me and this is a trim level I’ve never walked through, but I have done the base level 2023 Toyota Sequoia. Since they are similar, I’m going to rapid fire discuss my likes/dislikes along with the TRD trim upgrades to see if it’s worth the $82,000 price tag. As always, the question stands: is this car suitable for families?

If this is your first time joining me - Hey! I’m Kelly the Car Mom and I take my car reviews for families seriously. As a certified child safety tech, mom of three, and a car lover, I really want to showcase the highs and lows of how the Toyota Sequoia would function for your family.

2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro Exterior

Let me be clear, some of you guys aren't going to like my opinion because you're obsessed with this car - it's your ride or die and you're going to tell me you would survive a zombie apocalypse and go 200,000 plus miles in it. That is not the point of this car tour. The point is for the moms who are considering this for the carpool lane and does it actually work. First thing to note, the ride is loud. We took this 60 mph on the highway and the noise was a little too much for me.

With that being said, let's discuss the things I like and that is the exterior. When Toyota redesigned the Sequoia, they brought back this fresh cute boxy look and it did not disappoint. I'm obsessed with the exterior and I think this TRD trim also offers a lot of nice off-roading features that play into that very rugged kind of look. Toyota does color really well. They offer a ton of gorgeous muted bright colors that make it a fun kind of wearable.

The TRD Pro exterior is gorgeous. I'm loving the 18 inch aluminum wheels with a rugged off-road look that also gives a ton of functionality. I know I said earlier I'm going to do this tour for the carpool moms, and I still am, but if you want a car that can do it all - this is it.

While I know this car does a few things very well, it's just not as versatile as I think it should be. That being said, I'm a huge fan of very easy to use and operate wireless charger, really nice cup holders, and then a very interesting center console. It's very choppy and has a lot going on. I mean just a lot of little places to do a lot of little things. We have cup holders in the back too, which I really like, the panoramic sunroof, and quality backup camera.

Infotainment System

Toyota did a lot for their new infotainment system - it's big and has a very responsive touchscreen, which is a huge upgrade to a previously very outdated interior infotainment system. There’s also a fully digital dash in this car which is also exciting. I do feel like this TRD trim level is missing a few features that I would expect for a price range of $82,000. It can't give me heads up display and I can't fit four car seats. These are the kind of things where if you're going to have that high of a price point, you're going to be subjected to a very high set of standards.

2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro Second Row Details

Looking at the car seat set up, the Sequoia does come in a bench and captain's chairs, if you’re unsure of which second row seating option is best - click here for a complete breakdown. I've never been able to get my hands on a bench, so as far as I'm concerned it's a rumor, I've never seen one - if you have one I would love to see a picture of it. I brought the Evenflo car seat with me today to mix it up (plus it has a steep recline), but despite how large the vehicle is there is little clearance. This is a little bit of a miss for me. What I hate is that these second row seats are not on tracks right, so I can't move it forward or backward without having to hassle with the entire seat.

Looking at the seats themselves, they're nice and wide making the lower anchors very nicely exposed. I would prefer the buckles to be a little bit more flexible, just for our kids in booster seats, but for the most part this is about as car seat friendly as it gets.

As for amenities, we have ceiling vents, which is a huge pro so good job Toyota, and we also have the built-in sun shades. I should have heated rear seats and I don't, so I think that's something that could have been added. I do have my climate control and two types of vents, along with USB and USB-C ports.

2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro Third Row Details

Third row access is not great. The floorboards are very elevated, which is why I have very much a knee to my chest sensation and it makes it a little bit uncomfortable to ride back here as an adult for long periods of time. If I were to move the third row back on its tracks, it really eats into the trunk space. If I had someone using the third row, I think you could make the assumption I would also probably need the trunk space - I've got three people riding in this car, why would you eat into my trunk space?

As my amenities are concerned, I do have my own little built-in sun shades, which is cute, and I also have my ceiling vents. We do have three seats found back here and I will say the middle seat itself is actually a pretty decent size so I feel good about the width of the seats. However, the Toyota Sequoia is really lacking in car seat hardware. We have no lower anchors in this third row bench and we only have one tether anchor,so if you want to install a car seat in the third row of the Sequoia it has to be forward facing.

In a seven passenger car you can fit three car seats, I think this is not competitive enough with the other full size family cars in its class.

2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro Trunk Details

With the third row pushed back all the way (for any sort of leg room) there is no trunk space. If you want to get more trunk space, you move this forward and it's still not winning awards as far as trunk space is concerned. They've compensated with the shelving system, which I actually don't hate. I think this is a very fun feature to include with decent sized trunk space, not as a standalone.

Another really big thing people are not happy with is the fact that third row seats don't lay flat! This makes it difficult for things like strollers or if you had a dog back here, it looks uncomfortable. I find this very very frustrating and quite honestly a poor design.

2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro Wrap Up

I'm not trying to be a hater and I know this car is cool, but the 2024 Toyota Sequoia is not my favorite. To spend $82,000 for a vehicle with little trunk space and only three out of the seven seats suitable for car seats, this is not my ideal family vehicle to recommend.
