If you’re new here - welcome! I’m Kelly the Car Mom and as a mom of almost four (if you missed the life update click here), CPST, and a huge car fan, I can’t wait to walk you through all the features of the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse to help see if it’s right for your family.

2024 Chevrolet Traverse Highlights:

  • Chevrolet has upgraded their 2024 Traverse! Both the interior and exterior received a much-needed facelift.

  • The Traverse is one of the largest mid-size SUVs on the market.

  • The infotainment system is now HUGE! Includes Chevy’s Super Cruise.

  • The second-row bench seat is hard to come by, but the captain’s chairs are great.

  • Third-row access includes Car Seat Friendly Tilt.

  • Middle head restraints in both the second and third row — this is a huge addition!

  • Trunk space is incredible — Chevrolet is calling it Best-in-Class.

2024 Chevrolet Traverse Exterior

This car has been SO anticipated - and for good reason. Chevrolet made a lot of really incredible upgrades to the Traverse that were much-needed. I hate to say it too early in a car tour, but this may be one of my new favorite midsize SUVs on the market for families.

I’m walking through the RS trim level today and the exterior is incredible. I love the sportiness of it and that it looks a lot like a baby Tahoe. The lines are clean, fresh, and it’s just a little boxy, but not too much.

Moving to the side profile, you can really tell that while this is classified as midsize - it’s a large SUV. The midsize market is incredibly varied, with the Toyota Highlander being so small compared to vehicles like the Traverse on the much larger end. Before you immediately go and make that jump to a Tahoe or an Expedition, give this size a test drive and see what you think.

Pricing

Let’s talk pricing. I have the RS trim with me today and it comes in at an MSRP of $55,000. Yes, this is an expensive price tag, but compared to the rest of the midsize market, it’s in the slightly-higher middle range. I’d like to note one of the main things you are paying for (beyond all the newest features) is space in this car.

A car like this is definitely going to be more expensive than the Honda Pilot, but not nearly as pricey as the Toyota Grand Highlander (which starts at around $5,000 higher).

Before you go and start comparing vehicle prices, decide what your absolute must-haves are in a trim level. From there, it’s much easier to see where your budget can take you in terms of midsize family cars.

2024 Chevrolet Traverse First Row

In one generation, Chevy went from my least favorite interior manufacturer, to one of my top choices. All of their cars have really stepped up their game, especially when looking at the American car manufacturers exclusively.

In this trim level, you get a ton of fun pops of red, whether it be in little chrome details or contrast stitching. The driver side door panel is nothing to write home about, but the center console has more than enough space along with the passthrough underneath.

Last note: Chevy finally got better cupholders in the first row. Love it.

Infotainment System

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room - this infotainment system is HUGE. Everything is really crisp, responsive, and this may be one of the most user-friendly systems out there right now. I like that climate controls are pulled out to the bottom of the screen, but you can also use manual buttons underneath.

As for fun driving features, Chevy’s Super Cruise is such a fun feature I’ve played around with on almost every press car they let me use. Truthfully, I think this is some of the best semi-autonomous driving tech you can get.

2024 Chevrolet Traverse Second Row

The Traverse comes with both the bench and captain’s chairs options, but the bench is not available on most trim levels. This is a major bummer.

I have the captain’s chairs with me today and for an infant seat in one of these chairs, I have a lot of clearance available. Typically, infant seats are known to take up a lot of space and even with the Nuna Pipa Load Leg, I still have good room. In the other chair, I installed the Evenflo LiteMax and with a hefty incline, there’s still all the clearance you need. Fred was lounging back here for the week.

The second row seats are adjustable as well, so you have the option to move things around for either more second or third row room, depending on what you need. As for amenities, you have ceiling vents in both rows, heated seats, and climate controls. No sun shades is my only complaint.

To get into the third row, Chevy has one of my favorite features: Car Seat Friendly Tilt. On the 2023 model, they only had this on one side, but for 2024 it’s now on both. LATCH car seat installation is required to use the tilt and I can easily tilt and slide the seat forward to get my older two in the back.

There are three seats back here in the third row and even though they are wide / deep, with two seats installed the middle seat is useless. I do want to point out a huge advance Chevy has made - the third row middle head restraint. This is the first year we are seeing these middle head restraints in the second and third rows; this is a huge win for families.

2024 Chevrolet Traverse Trunk

Chevy is claiming that their Traverse has the Best-in-Class trunk space and I will say, it’s massive. I threw my Mockingbird stroller back here (seat attached and everything) and it was able to fit with the third row up. It’s wide, deep, and there is some extra storage underneath.

2024 Chevrolet Traverse Wrap Up

If your family is currently in between a midsize and full-size SUV, I HIGHLY recommend giving the Chevy Traverse a test drive. It’s on the larger end of midsize vehicles and with the excellent car seat setup and latest features, it’s definitely a car that can grow with your family.

I don’t plant my flag in cars very often, but if I had to stick to the midsize category for four kids, I would purchase the 2024 Chevy Traverse for myself.
