2023 Mazda CX 50 Review
We’ve got an off-roader on deck today! The brand new 2023 Mazda CX-50 is a combination of an all-terrain and compact SUV. But the real question: does this vehicle work well for families?
If you’re new here- welcome! I’m Kelly the Car Mom and I juggle many hats. As a certified child safety tech, mom of three, and overall car lover I take my reviews seriously. By the end of this post, you’ll understand all the features of the 2023 Mazda CX-50 and its benefits for your family.
2023 Mazda CX-50 Exterior
Right off the bat, I love the color of this Mazda. I'm so into these muted green tones right now on vehicles and I think this one looks great. The front end is pretty good lookin, I'm really the headlights with a little ledge, it gives a nice rugged look. Moving into a beautiful grill, the Mazda logo and some really nice aggressive indented hood lines.
From the side profile, you can really see how rugged and boxy some of the elements of the vehicle are. The wheels have a two-toned 20-inch wheel and some nice flat black fenders here against this dark green body color.
For the rest of the exterior, some black and chrome elements kind of mixed together chrome roof rails, black faux fenders down there, and black faux running boards down there along with flat black across the windowsills as well.
2023 Mazda CX-50 First Row Details
Starting with the door panel, there’s a little bit of black leather with some nice red cross stitching. It’s got a bit of western,a little bit rugged, everything else is pretty simple on the door panel. As for the rest of the interior, I’m actually obsessed with it. The black with the brown stitching is beautiful, but it's a little bit more than just a contrast stitching- the overall design is such a cool look.
Infotainment System
Starting off, we don't have any digital display on this vehicle, but we do have some nice steering wheel controls- all of our bluetooth, as well as our automated cruise control features on the side. It does have some nice cameras, we have a backup camera as well as the surround view, it's also very easy to switch if you’re off-roading.
As far as the infotainment system is concerned, it's a little clunky and not really my favorite. It looks a little outdated and for a 2022 vehicle I wanted more. I don’t like that it’s not a touch screen, it’s just really annoying.
2023 Mazda CX-50 Second Row Details
Sitting in the second row of this Mazda CX-50, it's not horrible, but it is a little tight. This car is quite deceiving because of its size and how difficult it is to fit some rear-facing car seats. Unfortunately, I don't have my car seats with me right now, but I do think this one would offer more space. If you are a tall driver with rear-facing car seats, I would worry about its space configurations.
Let's talk about some of the amenities from the second row. Overall, my knee clearance is pretty good, I do have the driver’s seat push pretty far forward. Heated seats and vents on the back of the center console, as well as two USB’s back here. Not a ton of storage with only one back pocket though.

2023 Mazda CX-50 Trunk Details
This is actually an incredible sized trunk. For the size of the vehicle, I’m more than happy. Spare tires found underneath, we've got some great options for tie downs storage on either side, and it's illuminated as well as a place for a cargo cover.
Absolutely no complaints back here!
2023 Mazda CX-50 Wrap Up
Overall, I think if you are looking for a little bit of a rugged affordable compact SUV I think the Mazda CX-50 is a great option to consider. The drive is smooth, especially in turbo, and I really like the amenities available. If you’re even remotely interested in a test drive, I would highly encourage you to test it out.
