2022 Lincoln Navigator L Reserve Review

I got a chance to review the 2022 Lincoln Navigator L (so, longer wheelbase and 12 more inches of room in the trunk) Reserve and I’m here to find out: Is this the luxury full-size SUV mom car or is it the Jeep Grand Wagoneer or Cadillac Escalade? The navigator got a total update in 2019 and since then I think it’s been competing with the other large SUVs in a big way

If you’re new here - welcome! I’m Kelly the Car Mom and it’s my mission to help you find the best SUV for your family. By the end of this post, you’ll understand all the features of the Lincoln Navigator and if it’s right for your family.

2022 Lincoln Navigator Exterior

I’m loving the front end with all the shiny chrome and the 22 inch rims look great. And we definitely need big rims like this for this big of a car. I do have to say the back end is not my favorite. The lightbar and chrome bar that goes all the way across just ages it compared to all the other great upgrades.

Trim Details

There are three trim levels of the Lincoln Navigator: Standard, Reserve, and Black Label, though the Standard does not have the option of the extended wheelbase.

2022 Lincoln Navigator First Row Details

Getting into the car the first thing we have to talk about is the driver’s comfort features. They are incredible. I have heated, ventilated and massaging seats as well as a heated steering wheel in this trim. The seats kind of look like gamer chairs but might be the most comfortable seats I’ve sat in.

Lincoln did make some top notch moves in creating storage space when they updated it in 2019. There is a cubby space under the cup holders, which is where I love to throw my purse. They also integrated the shifter under the touch screen, giving up so much more room for a big cubby space, USB, USBC, 12 volt, change collector, two cup holders and a really good sized center console.

Infotainment System

The Lincoln Navigator is also loaded with safety, convenience and technology features. It has a digital dash that is simple and easy to read. The center touch screen is not integrated as much as I like, but it is very easy to use. As for safety features, it has it all. Everything from emergency brake assist, pre-collision assist, and enhanced lane-keep assist. There are a few technology features Lincoln did leave off. There is no rear view camera in the rearview mirror, which would make visibility so much better in a car this big, or blind spot camera in the dash like some of the other cars in its class.

2022 Lincoln Navigator Second Row Details

Sitting in the second row I have a ton of room even with the front seat set for me and I’m about six feet tall. There are also 2 USBs, an outlet and 12 volt. The cup holders aren't my favorite—they pop out behind the center console, which is quite the reach in a car this size and in the bench version doesn’t give the person sitting in the center anywhere to put their feet. You can check out my review of this same car with the bench here. Also, there are no sunshades. For $100,000 there should be sun shades. This particular car has captain seats and they are lux. They are heated, ventilated and massage. Love to see it.

2022 Lincoln Navigator Third Row Details

The third row is spacious and comfortable. I have plenty of room back here and I have my own ceiling vents, lights, USB, cubby space and cup holder. I installed a booster seat using the lower anchors and I think we could still fit two more people back here. And one of my favorite features that should be standard is there is a head restraint in the middle seat. It blows my mind that so many cars (like all of GMCs lineup, including the Traverse) don’t have middle headrests

2022 Lincoln Navigator Car Seat Set Up

The car seat set up is one of the best in the full-size SUV lineup. There are lower anchors in the outboard seats in both the second and third rows and tether anchors in every seat in the second and third row. That’s a total of 4 sets of lower anchors and 5 tether anchors, which offer tons of car seat flexibility.

From a hardware set up this is definitely the best car seat set up in the line up of full-size SUVS. Suburban, Tahoe and Escalade don’t have lower anchors in the third row. The Wagoneer has one set. lf you’re looking for this, but not the Lincoln price tag, check out the Ford Expedition. Lincoln owns Ford. It’s just a bit more luxurious.

The Navigator also has a carseat tilt so when the outboard seats are installed using the lower anchors the seat can safely tilt forward, making room to get into the third row.

2022 Lincoln Navigator Trunk Details

This is the extended wheelbase version of the Navigator (that’s the “L” in the name), giving it 12 more inches of trunk space. My Uppababy Vista fits back here along with a week’s worth of groceries. For what it’s worth, I do think the Escalade and Wagoneer have a little more trunk space if that’s important to you. From back here I can control the second and third row and what I love is that it’s press and release. You know I hate when I have to hold down the button as the seat folds.

2022 Lincoln Navigator Wrap Up

I’m really impressed with the space and comfort features of this Lincoln Navigator. I love this car and think it’s a great option if you need cargo space and car seat flexibility. Plus, it’s absolutely gorgeous.
