From Space-less to Spacious:
How Swapping my Jeep Grand Cherokee For The Wagoneer Took Mom-Life to a Whole New Level
written by Megan Licciardello
I purchased my first mom-mobile, a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, back in 2013. My shopping experience was straightforward and the car was great, but after having 3 kids in 3 years, we were rubbing elbows in no time.
For years I longed for a new vehicle, but most large SUVs came with a hefty price tag and my car was paid off. I started following The Car Mom to get an idea of what cars might work for us when we were ready to purchase.
Very few cars got my attention. That is, until I saw Jeep’s newest addition: the Wagoneer. I closely followed the vehicle after it’s reveal and was pretty sure this vehicle might be THE ONE.
There were a few things, however, that scared me. First, the price. The lowest trim started at $68,000. It’s competitively priced with similarly sized cars, but still caused some sticker shock.
Second, there was no way to see the vehicle in person. Only advertising photos and digital renderings were available and there was no way I was committing to a vehicle I couldn’t touch.
After speaking with several dealerships, it was a waiting game. They were supposed to arrive on lots late summer, but month after month, still no Wagoneers... until last week.
A dealership contacted me to let me know they had a 4x4 Series III Wagoneer on the lot. This wasn’t the trim or drive I had been looking to purchase, but we decided to make the trip down to see the Wagoneer in person.
The pictures do not do it justice. From size, to color, to small details throughout, the Wagoneer exceeded my expectations: she was a dream. Less than 48 hours later, I was leaving that same dealership in my new 2022 Wagoneer.
While we have only had the vehicle a week, she rides beautifully and is a hit with the whole family. Here are some of our favorite features:
Room. The space inside is awesome. My six foot husband sits comfortably in all three rows. The second row captain seats offer easy access to the back. All three rows also recline, taking the comfort level up a notch.
Technology. The large center console screen is very easy to navigate. It has UConnect, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The settings are easy to navigate and there are several conveniences available at the touch of a button. There’s also a passenger screen so they can assist with things like navigation or have their own entertainment.
Cup Holders. Everyone in the Car Mom Crew knows how important these are. There are 4 in the front, 4 in the second row, and two in the third row.
Storage. The passenger glove box is lacking, but the center console is very spacious. As for rear space, the trunk is large enough for my needs. Plenty of room for groceries and I can always put down the third row with the push of a button if I need more space.
