What is Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Depature Warning?

If you are test driving a new car for the first time in a while you may be surprised when the car vibrates, makes noise and/or takes control of your steering while on the road. This technology is known as Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) and and Lane Departure Warning (LDW). These driver assistance features are designed to keep you in the lane when you unintentionally drift. Some people LOVE these features and some people don’t… so it’s important to know what the features are, how they work and what to expect!

Lane Departure Warning

Lane Departure Warning will alert you in various ways (vibrating of seat or steering wheel, beeping, and/or lights) when you start to drift out of your lane without your blinker.

Lane Keeping Assist

Lane Keeping Assist takes it even a step further and will override your steering wheel slightly to guide you back into the middle of the lane.

Every vehicle and manufacturer makes their drivers assistance technology a little differently so it’s important to test drive before hand and understand how the tech works!
