2023 Wagoneer L Carbide | The Ultimate Jeep
At the 2023 New York Auto Show I got a chance to take a look at the new 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L. Not enough people are talking about this car! This car really surprised me and I can’t wait to walk all of you through it on today’s blog where I put it through the ultimate mom tests. Does this car meet the standards? Find out below!

Exterior
First, let’s talk about the size of this car. It’s huge. That L in the name stands for long, giving this car 12 more inches of trunk space compared to the regular Wagoneer. From the exterior, it looks a bit longer and has the controversial rounded-out back windows, but overall she is stunning. The more I see the Jeep Wagoneer on the road the more I like it. The front has Jeep’s signature seven-slotted grill and is all black. The entire exterior of this Carbide edition is blacked out and it looks really nice. The rounded-out back windows are not my favorite, but the backend is darling. It gives me G Wagon vibes and looks very high-end.
Interior
Jumping into the driver’s seat of the Wagoneer I am living large. There is a digital dash, a heads-up display, and a huge built-in screen. As far as driver’s amenities there is a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated seats, wireless phone charger, panoramic sunroof, two cup holders, phone cubbies, and USB and USBC outlets. The center console is huge. The only thing I can critique is that I’d like more cup holders, but I always want more cup holders.
Second Row
I’m very excited about this second row. With the driver’s seat set for a tall driver, I still have decent knee clearance back here and I’m about six feet tall. On the back of the headrests, there are TVs with Fire TV ready to go as well as HDMI, USB, and headphone jacks. There is climate control and heated seats back here as well as 2 more USB and USBC outlets, a regular outlet, and a 12-volt. You can charge everything. I love the window shades, but I hate that there aren’t ceiling vents. With rear-facing car seats I think ceiling vents are necessary. And don’t tell me you can’t get ceiling vents and a panoramic sunroof because you can do both!
But one of my favorite things about the Wagoneer is that the bench has three separate seats. That means you have so much flexibility in installing car seats and still be able to get into the third row. And it gets better. The Wagoneer also has the car seat tilt so you can get into the third row even if there is a car seat installed. Great job, Jeep. Remember though, this only works when the car seat is installed using the lower anchors.
Third row
So, there are a few options to getting into the third row (unlike the Palisade, but I still love her anyway) by sliding either the outboard seat forward or using the car seat tilt. I have great head and knee clearance even with the second row pushed all the way back. There are also cup holders, USBs, USBCs, cubby storage, and a sunroof just for the third row—I love it. Now, if you’re wondering what the biggest difference between the Jeep Wagoneer and the Suburban or a Yukon XL is, it’s the middle seat headrests. They don’t exist in GM cars. The Wagoneer has middle head restraints in the 2nd and 3rd rows, making those seats much safer. Good job, Jeep. Ford and Lincoln also offer middle-head restraints
Car Seat Set Up
I’m excited about the car seat setup in this car. The second row has lower anchors for all three seats and there is one set in the third row. There are tether anchors for every single seat in the second and third rows. That gives you so much flexibility in installing car seats. And we can’t forget the car seat tilt. Love to see it.
Trunk
The trunk has an auto lift gate and even with the third row up there is tons of room. The second and third row automatically go down, which you know I usually hate (like in the Lexus RX350), but Jeep made these press and release, so I don’t have to hold the button and they go down pretty quickly. With the seats down this trunk is a truck bed.
Trim
Like we mentioned this is the Carbide edition of the Wagoneer, which means that the whole thing is blacked out. And it’s the “Wagoneer L,” so there’s 12 more inches of trunk space. This is a first-look of the 2023 edition and we’re waiting to see what the other trim levels are going to look like.
My Honest Review
I have a major crush on this car and I think it is perfect for large families who need lots of space. I made my husband watch my Youtube tour of it last week, because maybe if he likes it as much as I do, we can get one! Stay tooned…
