2022 Hyundai Tucson Tour
Hyundai completely redesigned the Tucson for 2022 and I am excited about it. I brought two car seats and a stroller for my tour to see if it would be a good car for moms. Let’s jump in.
Exterior
Hyundai has been redesigning their whole lineup of cars and I am loving all of them. The gunmetal gray grill looks so sharp. There are chrome accents all around the exterior that along with the dramatic hood lines and black roof rails make it look super sporty. The back end is sleek with wraparound tail lights, and finally a car that took my advice and tucked the back wiper into the spoiler.
Interior
Front Row
Even though this is a compact SUV I fit great in the driver’s seat and I’m about 6 feet tall. The seats are super comfortable and almost hug me, plus they are heated and ventilated. The door panel is pretty simple. My cup fits in the door cup holder and the high-gloss accents look great, but are finger print city.
The dash is completely digital and customizable. I love it. There is also a customizable button on the steering wheel that you can automate to call someone, turn on quiet mode, which turns down the radio in the backseat so you can listen to your podcasts while they sleep, or a million other things the Tucson technology offers.
In the beautiful built-in and user-friendly touch-screen display you get a backup and surround view camera on the Limited trim level. In between the two front seats there are 2 USBs, a 12 volt outlet, wireless phone charger, and space-saving button shifter. There isn’t a sunglasses holder, which drives me crazy, but Hyundai makes up for it with the two great-sized cup holders and panoramic sunroof. Hyundai is not sleeping on any of the comforts or luxury features for the Tucson.
Now for the safety: it has auto cruise control, auto hold, active brake assist, blind spot detection, and front and rear sensors. I’m impressed.
Second Row
With the front seat set for me I jumped into the back and there is plenty of knee and head clearance for me. The seats are super comfortable and are heated back here. Other backseat amenities are vents, 2 USBs, a small cup holder in each door and 2 more in the center armrest. The one downside is the tiny middle seat. I’m not going to rule it out but I don’t think three across would fit in this car. I did install a rear-facing pumpkin seat behind the driver and it fits great, but those anchors are buried deep in the leather. It took me a minute and I install car seats all day long. On the other side of the car I installed a forward facing Graco car seat really easily since the headsets are removable.
Car Seat Set Up
Across the bench we have two sets of lower anchors and three tether anchors all the way across—the government-mandate minimum. So technically you could install three car seats back here, but I’m not convinced there is enough room. Also, the way the seat belts pull out of the seats they overlap with the lower anchors, which doesn’t make me feel very comfortable. Nonetheless, I think it’s a great setup for 2 carseats if you don’t need to use the middle seat.
Trunk
Onto the trunk, which has a power liftgate. I threw my Mockingbird double stroller in and it fits with plenty of room. I’m really impressed with the trunk space considering the size of the car. There is also a 12 volt outlet in the trunk and a lever to fold the back seats down.
Trim
Hyundai kept it simple with three trim levels, and the website makes it super easy to compare the different trim offerings. While the Limited trim level is nice, I would go with the SEL and add the comfort package to get almost all the features of the Limited trim without the higher price tag.
All in all I love the new design and all the tech, comfort, and safety features of the Tucson. If you’re a mom of one or two looking for a compact SUV that is also zippy, fun, and quiet to drive, the Hyundai Tucson should definitely be high on the list.
