2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup

Hummer came out with their signature SUV in the late 90s and it had a gas guzzling moment. 2008 was a rough year for them and by 2010 GMC had stopped all production of the Hummer. But 12 years later the Hummer is back… as an all electric truck!

Exterior

I’m loving the exterior of this new Hummer. It still has a lot of the DNA of the original Hummer, but GMC added several new features like the amazing light bar across the front with HUMMER spelled out in the lights. And can we talk about how this isn’t an SUV, it’s a truck and it is beefy! The tires are probably twice the width of normal tires.

Interior

Front Row

Jumping into the front row, the Hummer EV is filled with hidden surprises. The speakers on the door panel look like the surface of the moon and GMC added cute little moon elements all throughout the interior. No moonroof needed in this car though because you can just take the roof right off. This is definitely competing with the new Bronco. Not only is it an electric truck, it’s also a convertible. The roof breaks down into 4 sections and you can take 1 or more sections off at a time, giving you some amazing natural light.

The infotainment system is huge, user friendly and customizable. The car has so many different driving modes, including crab walk mode so the car can literally drive side to side. It has 17 cameras all over the car, including in the trunk bed and under the car.

As far as driver’s amenities we have heated and ventilated seats, 2 cup holders, a wireless charger, USB and USBC chargers, a great sized center console, and an extra storage compartment in between the two front seats. And I’m really loving this beautiful first-edition branding with the brushed bronze detailings.

Second Row

The front row is super wide, which means we’re going to have a ton of room back here in the second row. I have great clearance for a rear facing car seat even with the front seat set for me and I’m about 6 feet tall. Sitting in the middle seat, I have plenty of room for car seats on either side of me. I’m definitely giving three across a thumbs up for the Hummer.

We also have climate control and vents on the back of the center console for the second row, heated seats on the outboard seats, USB, USBC and a standard plug. You know I love a standard outlet in the back seat. It’s perfect for pumping moms or for your crockpot.

As for storage in the second row I am super impressed. The door has a good sized cup holder and both outboard seats have a hidden storage compartment in the seats. So cool!

Car Seat Set Up

Like I mentioned, I give the Hummer a thumbs up for 3 across in the backseat. Trucks are some of my favorite cars for complex car seat setups because the bench is so wide. There are lower anchors and tether anchors on both outboard seats.

Trunk

Since Hummer is made by GMC, we get the awesome GMC tailgate. There are so many ways to open and configure the tailgate. There is a step to make it easier to get into the bed or a nice foot rest for tailgating.

And because this is an EV, we get a front trunk! Double click the key and a power front trunk opens. And it’s a really good size (way bigger than the trunk of the Toyota Highlander). So you get the best of both worlds: the bed of a truck and a trunk of an SUV in the front.

Close

If you’re looking for a family-friendly electric vehicle (and have $100K to spend), the hummer EV is such a great option. It has a 350-mile battery range, a great set up for three across on the second row bench, a beautiful exterior and interior, and storage to boot! We can’t wait to see the SUV version of the Hummer available early 2023!
