2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Review
Today, I’ve got one of the most popular mom cars on the market to walk through! I’ve been driving the Chevy Tahoe for about a month now as a mom of three and I’m so ready to break down all the features on this beloved full-size family hauler and compare it to my beloved Ford Expedition.
If you’re new here - welcome! I’m Kelly the Car Mom and it’s my mission to help you find the best SUV for your family. By the end of this post, you’ll understand all the features of the Ford Expedition and if it’s right for your family.

Chevrolet Tahoe Exterior
The Chevy Tahoe was redesigned in 2021 and the result is pretty significant. I’ve been very mixed on if I like the redesigned look, but the more I see it on the road I do think the front end is very attractive, especially compared to other cars in its class like the Ford Expedition. I went to Detroit to get an exclusive sneak peek at the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe and while I am impressed with some of the tech upgrades, I want you to know the functionality, the size and the car setup all stayed the same. So, this tour is going to be very relevant despite being a few years older.
Looking at her side profile, the Chevy Tahoe is what we classify as a full size SUV. To see a breakdown of every full size SUV on the market, check out my showdown here.
Chevrolet Tahoe First Row Details
Starting off with the driver seat door panel, we’ve got really nice cubby space available. I think the Ford Expedition is a little bit better and bigger, but the door panel is not really a deal breaker.
The rest of the console is fairly standard. USB and USB-C ports are great, but the cupholders are small! I don’t understand why nowadays cupholders cannot fit a Stanley. Center console has excellent space though.
Infotainment System
For 2025, the infotainment system in the Expedition received a much needed upgrade. I love all the tech on it, but the later models offer excellent technology as well. The screen is simpler and has all the essentials you need.
I have found this very user friendly especially after driving the Ford Expedition for a year and having the climate control built into the infotainment system. It was so annoying and so clunky and I missed a functional button, so I'm happy I have that back.

Chevrolet Tahoe Second Row Details
I know the majority of you are here to check out the second row car seat setup. I don't think you'll be surprised to find out the Chevy Tahoe comes in both a bench seat and captain's chairs. I’m excited because I have the bench seat and I have never really been able to play around with the Chevy Tahoe bench.
Let's start by looking at the car seat clearance. I used a Clek Foonf and have the driver's seat up for myself about 6 ft tall and I have plenty of clearance. My three kids are in Clek Foonfs and a Clek Liing. This bench is nice and wide and I can say confidently it can accommodate any three across option from forward facing to boosters.
As far as the car seat hardware is concerned, in this bench seat we have lower anchors in all seating positions and then tether anchors across the back. This is what we call a 60/40 bench and I much prefer the Ford Expeditions bench setup where it’s made up of three separate seats.
As for the second row amenities, it includes:
Two USB-C ports
Heated seats
Climate control options
Ceiling vents (I wish there were also center console vents)
Chevrolet Tahoe Third Row Details
In the third row, we still have three seats, but only have three tether anchors and no lower anchors. This is a huge miss for the Chevrolet Tahoe because other vehicles in its class have lower anchors in the third row. I would like to see those added.
On paper, the Ford Expedition and Chevy Tahoe are so similar, but in person you can really feel how much bigger the third row is. I like that I still have ceiling vents and cup holders back here.
Unfortunately, there is no middle head restraint which is a huge no no for me because now as an adult I can't sit in the seat. I have to choose an outboard seat and that's really important to keep in mind when figuring out who's going to sit where. If you guys do have the bench seat I would not put a child without a car seat in a seat without a headrest. That's just basic safety.
I'm also not really a fan of exiting the third row. I can hit this button and I also have to pull the seat up- it just feels a little clunky. The Fold and Flip is okay, but I much prefer the Friendly Tilt.
Chevrolet Tahoe Trunk Details
I feel people are a little disappointed whenever they see the Chevy Tahoe and Ford Expedition trunks. You have to remember these are not the extended wheel-based version, so if you are needing more trunk space behind the third row look at the Suburban Expedition Max. This trunk is very comparable to the size of the Chevy Traverse trunk. I can just really throw whatever I need back here, but let's say you need to use the third row a Mockingbird stroller still fits nicely. With the third row down, it’s huge!
Chevrolet Tahoe: Wrap Up
When it comes to the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition, I like them both for different reasons. I think the Ford Expedition is a lot more car seat friendly with the separate seats in the bench. The car seat friendly tilt is nicer and there are lower anchors in the third row.
As for the Chevy Tahoe, it’s a better looking car and a better driving car, so does that not answer the question. It all depends on what's important to you. I'm very excited about the 2025 upgrades of the Tahoe specifically in the interior, but I also think they really missed the boat on some updates like not adding the middle head restraint or lower anchors.
